TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking to hire Mental Health and Addictions Support Workers via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon completing the training opportunity, successful candidates will be eligible to work as Mental Health and Addictions Workers or Community Liaison Workers.

 

Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as Mental Health and Addictions Workers for 12 months subsequent to graduating.

 

Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.

 

Applicants will be assigned schools based on seat availability.

Job Summary

Come work as a Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker in Bella Coola, BC with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

 

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking to hire Mental Health and Addictions Support Workers via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon completing the training opportunity, successful candidates will be eligible to work as Mental Health and Addictions Workers or Community Liaison Workers.

 

This program requires a minimum commitment of about 21 months. Successful candidates are expected to be available 37.5 hours a week including mornings, evenings, and weekends during the program. They will also work as Mental Health Support Workers for at least 20 days before starting school. The education portion of the program typically lasts eight to ten months. After graduation, employees are required to fulfill the Return of Service Agreement for 12 months.

 

Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.


As an applicant to this job posting, you will be considered for seats at sites across VCH for various cohorts starting between 2024 and 2025. Applicants will be assigned schools based on seat availability. 

 

As a Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse or another regulated healthcare professional to perform a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical duties to support other team members and individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges and their family/caregivers, to maximize their independence.

ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BC

 

Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 residential beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services.  Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12 (and English 12) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License may be required as local area travel may require the use of a vehicle

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, including working with clients living with mental illness and/or substance use challenges.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
