Job Summary

Come work as a Business and Contract Analyst with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

 

Reporting to the Manager, Medical Affairs Analytics, the Business & Contract Analyst is responsible for the coordinated analysis, research and reporting, to support the various projects and strategic planning initiatives across Medical Affairs. Key areas for active involvement and accountability include conducting ongoing analysis of financial and business data, identifying data requirements for measurement of contract deliverables using advanced statistical and analytical methods and data-driven methodologies, validating or modeling data, and compiling customized reports to suit departmental business needs. Advises management on recommendations for improving internal and external processes and/or optimizing the use of organizational resources. The Analyst will monitor and advise on the performance of the management system, produce data and report on contract performance, measuring against set indicators. The Analyst will liaise with the Ministry of Health, other health authorities, public and private organizations and individuals as appropriate for obtaining and providing information as required.

As a Business and Contract Analyst with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Develop key databases, datasets, and management plan associated with medical staff data.
  • Define information and data requirements for measurement of deliverables and related metrics described in various medical staff service contracts.
  • Identify and assemble appropriate data sources, maintain databases/systems, develop standardized reporting profiles for individual contracts, and create client accessible reporting systems for contract management purposes.
  • Analyze various financial issues with respect to revenue sources and expenditure patterns related to medical staff services and contracted services.
  • Provide overall data and statistical analysis and modeling related to medical staff resource planning, physician engagement and other related issues ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives of the department. Prepare and present findings, conclusions and recommendations to a variety of audiences for decision making purposes.
  • Support contract design and negotiations with required data and analysis.
  • Engage with data providers in other VCH departments (ie. Decision Support and Finance) and externally (ie. Ministry of Health, HEABC) on securing access to required data.
  • Build a partner group to be involved in data synthesis, to ensure data quality and properly functioning systems.
  • Perform quality assurance audits on data and results generated from analyses, and report on outcomes.
  • Provide best practice expertise to teams in the areas of research, evaluation, model development, feasibility studies and business case development.
  • Identify relevant quality-related training needs and delivers training to relevant partners on the proper use of various data sources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Health Informatics, Operations Research or other related field with a quantitative focus and preferably working towards a Master’s degree.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ recent, related experience applying analytics with a healthcare delivery context.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to identify, interpret, assess and resolve complex issues and present information succinctly. Demonstrated strength in descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze financial and budget related information. Broad knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
  • Comprehensive technical expertise, process management, analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to outline recommendations to senior levels.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated business acumen for normal business practices, tools and methodologies.
  • Results oriented within a high-pressure working environment with numerous critical timelines.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to understand and clearly relate to others, at all levels of the organization.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Equally comfortable working as a member of a team, or working independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to use spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word and Visio), and presentation (PowerPoint) software at an advanced level.
  • Intermediate skills with Business Intelligence solutions (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience writing SQL queries and working with databases preferred.
  • Experience in working with Python, R, or other languages, and analytics solutions such as KNIME preferred.
