Job Summary

Come work as a Child and Family Support Worker with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Child and Family Support Worker to join the School Program team located at Blundell Elementary in Richmond, BC. This position will work during the school year with July and August off as unpaid leave. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Child and Family Support Worker with VCH you will:

  • Be in collaboration with the elementary school classroom instructional team, clinical care team, and family/caregivers, provide behavior management support to children and families by developing positive skills that increase the child’s chance of success by assisting them in managing/stabilizing/regulating behavior and emotions.
  • Support and educates families by performing duties such as facilitating training sessions and providing instruction and demonstrations. Works collaboratively with the community to build partnerships and identify community resources.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12.
  • Diploma in teaching assistance, educational assistance or other social science program.
  • One year recent related experience working with elementary school-aged children in a classroom or community setting or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Certificates in CPR, First Aid and Foodsafe.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of child development, including the impact of trauma and early childhood experiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with elementary school-aged children, parents/caregivers, school teachers, and other community agency partners.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to deal with socialization and behavioural problems with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders, as of October 5, 2023, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most-recent, updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
