Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a ADHD Clinic Nurse to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC.  Apply today to join our team!

 

As a ADHD Clinic Nurse with VCH you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments, in consultation with the physician and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide crisis intervention and independently conducts psychotherapy/group/family sessions for clients/families.
  • Review literature, analyses trends and recommend changes to modify/change current nursing standards.
  • Provide information to internal/external sources based upon specialized ADHD theory/practice.

 

About the ADHD Clinic

 

The Regional Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Clinic is dedicated to serving adults living with ADHD in the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) region.

 

Our new multi-disciplinary care team follows best practice guidelines to provide eligible clients timely access to virtual and in-person services, including evidence-based ADHD assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning. Treatment plans include medication initiation, stabilization and education; multidisciplinary support and collaborative care coordination; and an eight-week psychoeducational skills group.

 

After receiving care at the clinic, clients will return to the referring primary care provider for ongoing, continued care and implementation of the treatment plan.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) years’ recent related ADHD experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centered care model.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing/psychiatric nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental illness and treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of substance use and addictions treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ADHD symptoms and experience working with individuals with ADHD.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of counseling skills and group facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other facilities and community resources.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct mental health assessments, and provide treatment planning and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of theory and practice to a case management process.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and their families, colleagues, physician, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
