As a Harm Reduction Support Worker with VCH, you will:

  • Operate a needle exchange program that will help IV Drug Users practice safer needle and condom use, under the general supervision of the Team Leader, Community and Family Health.

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12.
  • Three (3) years’ recent related experience overseeing a needle exchange program and knowledge of substance abuse or an equivalent combination of training, education or experience.
  • Valid Drivers license and use of personal vehicle required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Understanding of the confidentiality of the role and that any breach is cause for termination.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
    Ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability to speak publicly.
  • Knowledge of HIV and STD’s and their impact on a community.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders, as of October 5, 2023, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most-recent, updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
