This role requires everything from big-picture planning to execution of all tactics to help move our innovation agenda forward. The Leader should be able to proactively identify innovative opportunities to advance the VCH strategic priorities as well as potential risks, and serves as a trusted advisor, demonstrating problem-solving and critical thinking skills, creativity, diplomacy and excellent communication skills.

 

As a Leader, Innovation with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide leadership for key innovation initiatives and priority projects to support the VCH Research and Innovation for Impact strategic priority.  
  • Contribute to the growth of a vibrant innovation culture at VCH through the creation and implementation of innovative strategies and engagement of diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Be an excellent communicator, facilitator and connector, the Leader will conceive, create and implement innovative, leading-edge strategies for engagement and partnership with internal teams and external groups to create synergies and increase the capacity, resources and expertise for innovation within VCH.
  • Work as part of the Transformation Team to collaborate with specialized teams and be accountable for bringing transformative organizational change processes congruent with the Vision, Values, Pillars and Strategic Goals of the organization.
  • Represent VCH in its working relationships with other Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health, other levels of Government, and industry partners

As part of VCH’s Transformation team, which supports executive, senior leaders and the Board to establish and cascade strategic and operational plans for the organization, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for developing and maintaining the planning and execution processes for VCH; strengthening the overall health of the organization; and planning, delivering, monitoring, and reporting on the full continuum of health services, which includes population and public health programs, high quality community-based health care and support services, acute hospital care, as well as improved productivity and performance.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters’ Degree in relevant discipline.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ recent, related experience including leadership in health care.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead and inspire staff, and build a team environment that fosters trust and respect.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer relations, communication and facilitation skills to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and lead a variety of complex and integrated initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to change and process management and experience in implementing large initiatives and leading change management strategies across complex and dynamic health care systems.
  • Client service oriented and skillfully communicates, advises and liaises with stakeholders and team members to facilitate collaboration and to ensure needs are addressed.
  • Demonstrated understanding of innovation and the translation of new ideas into practice including proactive risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Expertise with health system information, program evaluation, health services operations and the external health care environment to appropriately analyze complex information, research and policy mandates.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply project management methodology and principles.
  • Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.
