Come work as a Breast Surgeon with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) seeks a locum general surgeon with expertise in breast oncology for the period of June 1 – December 31, 2024 (some flexibility in start date). The surgeon will be based at VGH and have elective surgical time at VGH, UBC Hospital and BC Cancer Vancouver.  The primary focus of the practice will include assessment and work up of breast pathology, surgical management of malignant and pre-premalignant breast conditions, follow up and surveillance of patients and participation in their multidisciplinary care (including attending tumor conferences, combined surgery with plastic surgeons, engagement with breast radiologist, pathologists, allied health, etc.). There may be options for acute care general surgery coverage depending on the training and comfort of the selected candidate. 

 

The Division of General Surgery at VGH currently includes 22 general surgeons with areas of expertise in trauma and acute care surgery, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. VGH is a quaternary medical center that provides care to the regional Vancouver population as well as Northern BC and the Yukon and complex or multidisciplinary care for patients around the province.  VGH is a teaching hospital and provides training and support to students and residents of all specialities. 

 

The candidate will be expected to have completed a residency program in general surgery and preference will be given to candidates with fellowship in breast oncology or surgical oncology. Subspecialty training in oncoplastic surgery is desirable.  The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the province of British Columbia.

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC)- Full
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)- Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)- Mandatory
