We are looking for a passionate leader to join our Transformation Team for a unique, one-year position that has the opportunity to make a huge impact across VCH. The successful candidate will help create and enable a unified strategy that integrates our VCH pillars: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism, and Planetary Health. This important role will facilitate a coordinated, cohesive and collaborative organizational approach, emphasizing the Pillar interdependencies and interconnectedness. The leader will foster trust through internal partnerships and Pillar leads, leverage change management principles, provide excellent communication and support extensive stakeholder engagement that evolves and adjusts as required. This leader requires a nimble, collaborative, inclusive and open mindset to move this critical work forward.

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Leader develops innovative organization-wide strategies and oversees the implementation of culture, organization and people development initiatives and programs that support Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) strategic goals. Working within the framework and directions of the Senior Executive Team and our Health Services Plan(s), the Leader is accountable to bring transformative organizational change processes congruent with the Vision, Mission, Values and Commitments of the organization. Represents VCH in its working relationships with other Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health, other levels of Government, education, research, and support activities consistent with the strategic priorities of VCH.

As a Leader, Transformation & Change with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Support the overall strategic direction of Transformation, and promote and instill a need for a positive change climate across the organization.
  • Lead and actively implement opportunities to drive transformational change to influence and affect organizational development and workplace culture.
  • Partner with People and Communications teams to plan programs that strategically embed oneVCH values, pillars and priorities into VCH culture.
  • Work as part of cross-functional teams to help employees commit to VCH’s strategic priorities and successfully navigate change.
  • Provide leadership, facilitation, coordination and support to organizational committees, planning groups and operations implementation groups along with ongoing communication to key stakeholders to ensure successful completion and sustainment of priority initiatives across the organization.
  • Provide supervision, guidance and leadership to designated staff as required, using effective management techniques such as coaching, mentoring, skill development, and performance management. Inspire team toward the achievement of project goals through ensuring the culture is one in which individual competencies can thrive.
  • Oversee, and participate as appropriate, targeted strategic and change initiatives; attend steering committees, track project status, develop work plans and budgets, as required.
  • Create project plans and promotes effective project management including establishing project charters, objectives, timelines and critical path, collaboration with stakeholders, engagement of appropriate resources, facilitation of project activities, progress monitoring, problem resolution, and recommendations to senior management team.
  • Partner with operations and corporate leaders in designing and implementing change processes that engage stakeholders from initiation to integration of changes.
  • Assist Transformation leadership team in the development of proposals for new programs and services, as well as opportunities for integration of existing programs and services, by preparing sound business cases and comprehensive presentations.
  • Prepare reports, graphs, tables, briefing notes, presentations, issue papers and makes recommendations based on sound business cases.
  • Participate and/or acts as VCH representative on internal and external committees and, as appropriate, organizations at the local, provincial and national levels; and prepare reports on behalf of relevant teams and programs.
  • Foster effective relationships across VCH to maintain stakeholder support for initiatives and activities, keep relevant stakeholders aware of project status, and create partnerships and opportunities for development of new projects.
  • Develop and strengthen external linkages with community, various levels of government, education institutes, other health regions, and other health related organizations to promote the exchange of information and ideas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters’ Degree in Heath Care Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or other related discipline.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ recent, related experience including leadership in community health care.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead and inspire staff, and build a team environment that fosters trust and respect.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer relations, communication and facilitation skills to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and lead a variety of complex and integrated initiatives.
  • Possesses business acumen and analytical skills to anticipate financial and business requirements and ensure effective use of resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to change and process management and experience in implementing large initiatives and leading change management strategies across complex and dynamic health care systems.
  • Client service oriented and skillfully communicates, advises and liaises with stakeholders and team members to facilitate collaboration and to ensure needs are addressed.
  • Demonstrated expertise in business case development and analysis including risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Expertise with health system information, program evaluation, health services operations and the external health care environment to appropriately analyze complex information, research and policy mandates.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply project management methodology and principles.
  • Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders, as of October 5, 2023, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most-recent, updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
