Come work as a Child Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a child psychiatrist at the Alan Cashmore Centre (ACC) to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team for infants and children 0 to 5 years of age living in Vancouver who have moderate to severe mental health concerns. Family and parent involvement is an essential aspect of the care.
In addition to child psychiatrists, the ACC team includes child and family therapists, childcare counsellors, and a speech and language pathologist. The psychiatrists carry their own therapeutic caseload and provide parent-child (family) therapy, case management tasks, maintain client notes in a database, and provide psychiatric assessment and consultation for diagnostic clarification and medication management. There is opportunity to facilitate groups as well.
The child psychiatrists also participate in the therapeutic preschool program where they provide psychiatric assessments, observations, and follow-up to children in the group.
ACC child psychiatrists should have experience working with diverse populations, with families that have experienced trauma, and with parents who have their own mental health needs. Experience with the neurodiverse / autism-spectrum population is an asset along with skills and experience in coaching parents on managing behavioral issues relating to neurodiversity.
Please note the application deadline is April 15, 2024.
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
A medical degree and eligibility for or licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required. All candidates must have subspecialty certification in child and adolescent psychiatry, and experience in infant psychiatry is desirable. Additionally, the candidate should have demonstrated ability working as a member of an inter-professional health care team and experience in community-based psychiatric care.
All VCH physicians must be appointed as medical staff of Vancouver Coastal Health. A clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine is highly encouraged as resident supervision and involvement in education initiatives is an expectation.
