Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Ophthalmic Technician to join the Downtown East Side Eye Clinic team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

 

As an Ophthalmic Technician you will:

  • Perform diagnostic ophthalmic tests and assessment procedures.
  • Provide test information for interpretation by medical staff.
  • Set up and dismantles clinic rooms and cleans applicable equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain an inventory of medical/surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Perform a variety of reception and clerical duties such as word processing and data entry into computerized systems.
  • Schedule and confirm patients for appointments.

Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, completion of a recognized program in ophthalmic technology or a Medical Office Assistant Certificate, plus one (1) year recent related experience as an ophthalmic technologist or experience working within an ophthalmology/optometry clinic or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of healthcare equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of health care facilities/clinics practices and procedures.
  • Ability to keyboard 5,000 strokes per hour.
  • Ability to develop and maintain rapport with patients
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Business writing skills
  • Ability to deal tactfully with coworkers and patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.  Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
