As a Social Work Assistant with VCH you will:

  • Provide support services to residents with work direction from a Social Worker.
  • Perform Social Work duties such as:
    • interviewing residents/families/facilities for information,
    • assisting residents to approach external resources,
    • providing practical support to residents,
    • arranging residents external appointments,
    • and acquiring and maintaining a supply of up to date information on services/agencies/resources and community, government, health and social sector supports.

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized program such as Social Work Assistant or Nursing Unit Assistant program, with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a Long Term Care setting (Long Term Adult Care) with a focus on the older adult population or an equivalent combination of education, training.
  • Class 5 Drivers License and access to transportation.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Develops and maintains positive and respectful relationships with co-workers and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
