Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join the Data and Solutions Infrastructure Team. Apply today to join our team!  

 

As a DevOps Engineer with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be a part of the Data and Solutions Infrastructure technical team with a primary focus on building and optimising data pipelines, developing and implementing DevOps and CI/CD release practices, and assist with the ongoing monitoring of the organisation’s data infrastructure.
  • Design and develop scalable, efficient, data tools and solutions for large scale, complex systems.
  • Work with various data development teams to ensure established processes and standards are adhered to along with performing code reviews as required.
  • Build and implement new development tools and infrastructure.
  • Apply expertise and critical thinking to automate and improve development and release processes with a focus on progressing the organisation’s CI/CD initiatives.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems or equivalent plus three years (3) experience in Information, Utilization Management and Quality Management or equivalent industry/certification experience (e.g. Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert)
  • Three (3) years experience as a DevOps engineer, release engineer, or a similar role within a data engineering or data development environment.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience performing DevOps practices (including but not limited to: code review, unit test automation, build & release automation, incident and change management).
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring CI/CD pipelines within a data-focused department/organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience building and optimizing data pipelines (ETL), with a preference working within a Databricks environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Azure DevOps, Databricks, and Azure SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience developing a branching strategy to tackle monolithic repos.
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows.
  • Proficiency coding in Python, Bash, Terraform, ARM, Bicep or other scripting languages with a focus on automating releases or processes.
  • Working knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Working knowledge of databases (Azure SQL, Synapse, etc) and SQL.
  • Knowledge of Azure or other cloud infrastructure services  (e.g Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps) an asset.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of database design and report design at the intermediate to advanced level as asset.
  • Knowledge of healthcare databases an asset.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
