Come work as an Emergency Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
Join a team of Emergency Physicians providing care to a large urban area in an academic centre. The Department of Emergency Medicine at Vancouver Acute comprises a group of dedicated and collegial physicians who cover the VGH (Vancouver General Hospital) Emergency Department and the associated UBC (University of British Columbia) Hospital Emergency Department, and who are seeking an Emergency Physician to join their group.
The VGH Emergency Department sees approximately 95,000 patients per year and houses a Level 1 Trauma Centre. VGH is a 850 bed adult tertiary care hospital focusing on world class tertiary, trauma, and neurological care. The UBC Hospital Emergency Department is the sister site, providing emergency care to the west end of Vancouver. The UBC Hospital is a community hospital with a surgical focus. The Emergency Department sees over 23,000 patients per year including pediatrics. This provides for a diverse and professionally rewarding career.
Applicants must be licensed to practice in BC, and be FRCPC-EM qualified, or hold CCFP-EM or ABEM certification with at least 5 years of experience in a high acuity and high volume centre. We are seeking candidates who are able to commit to a minimum of 6 shifts per month, with a mix of day, evening and night shifts, distributed over both VGH and UBC Hospitals beginning July 2024. There is the potential to take on more shifts as the opportunity arises. The salary is not fee-for-service but rather based on an Alternate Payment Plan contract and consistent with that of a full-time emergency physician in British Columbia. Details will be provided to interested candidates.
The emergency medicine group at Vancouver Acute is highly collegial and supports strong research and academic educational programs. As an academic centre, teaching of medical students and residents on-shift is part of the work we do. FRCPC residents are trained within our Emergency Departments.
The successful candidate will be a collaboratively spirited colleague with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding, and respect of diverse perspectives and behaviours. They will have a record of accomplishments that demonstrates commitment to clinical excellence and medical education. Expertise in an area such as quality improvement, research, administration, or a similar scholarly pursuit that demonstrates a commitment to furthering the field of emergency medicine with a desire to enhance the delivery of care at VA will be considered an asset.
