Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Physiotherapist to join the ABI Transitional Housing team at George Pearson Centre in Vancouver, BC. 

A new, innovative, and exciting Physiotherapist 2 position! You will support a regional ABI Transitional Housing Program that has been co-designed in collaboration with specialists from across VCH, including brain injury, rehabilitation, substance use, mental health and safety. This is the first program of its kind in BC - one that provides a healing, client-driven (“meeting the client where they are at” and “nothing about me without me”), transitional location for people after their acute brain injury and hospitalization. As part of an interdisciplinary team in a community program you will care for clients during transitions and support outreach. The ABI program also emphasizes a supportive and innovative training environment.

As a Physiotherapist working in VCH, you will:

  • Plan, deliver, evaluate and provide care coordination to address the needs of clients and families experiencing physical or functional impairment and acute/chronic disease within community, ambulatory and institutional settings.

  • Work without general supervision in a team based environment in partnership with the client, family members or significant others.

  • Utilize educational resources and other health care professionals/providers as needed to deliver direct care through the development, implementation and adaptation of a care plan.

  • Provide care management to assist clients to manage their own health care/navigate through various services available within the community setting in order to address the client’s functional/physical/social/cognitive/perceptual/environmental needs to maximize capabilities, community participation, recovery from, or adaptation to, illness/impairment.

  • Contribute to the organization and the delivery of physiotherapy services by participating in program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research and education.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC).
  • Eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).
  • Valid BC Driver’s License. Local travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated program/area.
  • Basic knowledge of physiotherapy standardized tests and measures.
  • Broad knowledge of physiotherapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport, trust and ethical relationships with clients/families, family care providers and other health care professionals
  • General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of acute, chronic disease, palliative and health management and self-management support.
  • Knowledge of community resources available for client/family support and related health services.
  • Knowledge of transitions through continuums of care
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.
  • Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Skill in the use of equipment and in the techniques appropriate to physiotherapy treatment.
  • Basic computer literacy.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
