Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data & Solutions Infrastructure Team.  We are specifically looking for someone who has experience with Databricks. Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Senior Data Engineer with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

    • Be a part of the Data & Solutions Infrastructure technical team with a primary focus on the ongoing sustainment and development of the organisation’s cloud and on-premises data infrastructure.
    • Design and develop scalable, efficient, data integration solutions for large scale data analyses, model development, validation and implementation
    • Collaborate with a variety of cross-functional team members to identify, develop, implement and maintain innovative solutions for the information needs of Vancouver Coastal Health.
    • Identify, develop, implement and maintain innovative responses to the information needs of the organization as well as ensure the department’s technical infrastructure is developed and sustained.
    • Apply experience in data modelling, data warehousing, building data pipelines, and excellent problem solving ability to tackle processing of high volumes of clinical data.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience

    • Masters Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems or equivalent.
    • Five (5) years’ recent, related experience including technical experience in working with databases and decision support tools, preferably in a health care setting or equivalent industry/certification experience (e.g. Databricks Data Engineer Associate, Databricks Data Engineer Professional, Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate)
    • Five (5) years experience in Information Technology with focus in database development, warehousing, and/or data engineering

     

  • Competencies:
    Refer to the VCH enabling competencies for Professional Practitioner positions.


    Knowledge & Abilities

    • Demonstrated proficiency using the Databricks platform and understanding the concepts of Databricks SQL, Delta Lake, cluster management.
    • Strong proficiency in Databricks SQL, Python, Scala with an ability to write efficient and scalable code for data processing/transformation tasks
    • Demonstrated experience building and optimizing data pipelines (ETL/ELT)
    • Strong understanding of DevOps and MLOps practices focusing on version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks
    • Demonstrated experience using big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark & Hadoop
    • Strong understanding of Spark RDD’s, data frames, and API’s for data manipulation
    • Demonstrated knowledge of data modelling and data warehousing principles
    • Knowledge using cloud data warehousing solutions (e.g. Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, Snowflake, etc.) an asset
    • Knowledge of Azure or other cloud infrastructure services  (e.g Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps) an asset
    • Experience working in an Agile environment
    • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of database design and report design at the intermediate to advanced level.
    • Knowledge of healthcare databases an asset.
