    Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Mental Health & Addictions Care Worker to join the Richmond Mental Health & Substance Use team. Apply today to join our team!


    As a Mental Health & Addictions Care Worker with VCH you will:

    • Provide support services to clients who have mental health and drug and alcohol misuse/addiction issues.
    • Monitor clients, document and provide verbal reports on observations in accordance with standard procedures or specific direction, facilitate the use of community services and resources and prove information on community services, and liaise and coordinate services with mental health, addictions, and medical professionals.
    • Plan, organize, facilitate and co-lead groups as required, participate in the process of case planning, assist clients with the activities of daily living including maintaining personal hygiene and appearance, safety, shopping, budgeting, and escort clients to appointments.
    • Participate in team meetings and corporate initiatives, engage in on going team planning and quality improvement activities, maintain a safe and clean environment for clients and team, and perform a variety of clerical duties as required.

    About the Richmond Mental Health & Substance Use (RMHSU) Adult Day Program (ADP)


    The RMHSU Adult Day Program service is offered to clients and caregivers/support within the Richmond based Vancouver Coastal Health service area. RMHSU ADP offers specialized adult day programming for complex adults with cognitive impairment and concurrent MHSU disorders living in the Richmond community. The program is a community group based model, offering ongoing cognitive assessment & intervention, social connection & meaningful activities to clients while simultaneously providing respite and support to their caregivers/supports. The overall purpose of the program is to optimize client functioning in their community environment.

    Education & Experience

    • Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program such as Community Health Worker Program, plus two (2) years’ relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • Valid B.C. driver's license. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement will be paid.

    Knowledge & Abilities

    • Knowledge of community, social and health resources.
    • Knowledge of substance misuse and of problems encountered by chemically dependant individuals; basic understanding of behavior management.
    • Knowledge of mental health issues and treatment.
    • Ability to demonstrate and assist client with activities of daily living.
    • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
    • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
    • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques.
    • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other employees, to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and staff from other agencies, to maintain confidentiality and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
    • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system.
    • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
