The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Richmond Hospital invites applications for a full time permanent position as a General Pathologist. Start Date 2024 (flexible). Fellowship training and/or related work experience (ideally at least 5 yrs) is not required but would be an asset.
The successful candidate will join the department of 5 Pathologists providing general pathology work including anatomical and clinical pathology services for both inpatient and outpatient in Richmond Community of Care. The work environment is a fast-pace high volume lab with about 20,000 Anatomical Pathology specimens and 1.5M Clinical Pathology tests per year with rapid annual growth.
Richmond hospital is a community academic teaching hospital. Applicants must have an interest or additional training in research and/or medical education. The hospital is over 225 beds, sees over 50,000 emergency room patients per year and runs seven acute operating rooms daily as well as a minor procedure room, a busy rehab clinic and an ambulatory procedure centre. The medical community is collegial and supportive with excellent relationships between departments as well as between community family physicians and specialists. Due to its proximity to the Vancouver airport, the hospital also provides services to visitors traveling to and from YVR.
Richmond is located on Lulu Island at the mouth of the Fraser River, and also encompasses adjacent Sea Island and some smaller uninhabited islets to the north and south. Neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, New Westminster to the east, and Delta to the south. The Strait of Georgia forms its western border. It is the fourth largest city in BC and encompasses diverse neighbourhoods from historic Steveston to the agricultural land reserves. The population of 218,000 is one of the most ethnically diverse in Canada
Richmond is the fourth most populous and fast growing municipalities in Metro Vancouver. To meet the growing demand for healthcare services, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is ensuring we plan for the future. Richmond Hospital is undergoing plans for a campus wide expansion and renewal. As announced on July 2020 by the Premier and Minster of Health, the aims is to build a new acute care tower. Incorporating modernized healthcare design principles, the new facility provide increased inpatient care beds, perioperative services, medical imaging and emergency services to support quality patient care and staff wellness and safety. Detailed planning is currently underway with a project completion target of 2028.
