ABOUT THE SCHOOL PROGRAM:
Assessment and treatment for elementary school-aged children attending a Richmond School District #38 program whose success in school is limited by social, emotional, behavioural and/or mental health difficulties. Clinical services (psychiatry, occupational therapy and counselling) are delivered in partnership with school district staff and families, to assist children in learning to develop skills to allow them to be successful in school. Clients age 5-12.
Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, works as part of a multidisciplinary community team, to provide treatment services for children and/or youth (depending on designated program/client population) with severe mental health issues. Performs psychosocial assessments; provides treatment services such as crisis interventions, individual therapy, play therapy, family therapy, education, and group work with children and/or youth and their families; and participates in the collaborative process of developing and adjusting treatment plans and initiates and participates in case conferences/meetings with clients and family. Provides information to families and the general public, consults with other health providers, and collaborates with colleagues and liaises with schools, Ministry of Children and Family Development, physicians, community agencies, hospitals, and other service providers. Participates in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, continuing education and engages in on going team planning and quality improvement initiatives.
