The Leader, Indigenous Engagement, will play a critical role in helping VCH collaborate, consult and communicate with First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities across the region through transparent, respectful, and meaningful engagement. This is part of our continued commitment to the Provincial Declaration of Commitment to Cultural Safety and Humility, the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People.
As a member of the VCH Community Engagement team, the Leader, Indigenous Engagement, will lead engagement programs that connect Indigenous peoples with VCH initiatives, including the delivery of assets, infrastructure, health care services and programs, as well as the development of resources to support the organization’s journey of listening, learning and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Reporting to the Regional Director, Public Affairs & Stakeholder Relations and with a matrix reporting structure to the Director, Indigenous Engagement & Inclusion, this role will collaborate closely with other Communications team members, Indigenous Health, regional project and program teams, Community of Care leadership, and First Nations and Indigenous community partners to help VCH develop engagement programs and business initiatives that reflect the unique needs and considerations of Indigenous partners. The Leader, Indigenous Engagement, will lead the way in helping VCH embrace and adopt Indigenous perspectives and methodologies to guide community engagement work and inform initiatives throughout the health authority.
Strong preference given to candidates identifying as Indigenous, including First Nations, Metis, or Inuit. We are striving to build a diverse team that has lived experience with Indigenous communities.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per the current Public Health Orders, as of October 5, 2023, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most-recent, updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
